Best of you: DNC in decline

grohl

I’ve got another confession to make.

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump because I think he can fox the economy. His tenor on national security did not inspire me to get to the polls. His unabashed patriotism, and promise to put America first went in one ear and out the other. I voted for Donald Trump because I fell victim to a series of fake news stories I found on Facebook… Wait, no. I mean I voted for Donald Trump because my feeble mind was manipulated by Russian Hackers… Wait… Maybe I voted for him because I am a profound racist, sexist, xenophobe, who stockpiles ammunition in his basement.

Believe it or not, all of these are reasons prominent democrats, from President Obama on down, are citing for Trump’s Election Day upset.

“The challenge is people are getting a hundred different visions of the world from a hundred different outlets or a thousand different outlets, and that is ramping up divisions.” says President Obama. ” It’s making people exaggerate or say what’s most controversial or peddling in the most vicious of insults or lies, because that attracts eyeballs.”

While listening to President Obama entertain the idea that conservative fake news websites lost Hillary the election with the publication that famously fabricated the now infamous Virginia fraternity rape scandal, I couldn’t help but think about the proud history of the Democratic Party. Andrew Jackson’s party once had its finger on the pulse of the working man in America. Jackson, Roosevelt, Kennedy, and even (Bill) Clinton presided over seasons of profound success for the middle class in America. The union worker, the high school educated skilled laborer, was their core constituency. Even Ronald Reagan with his “Reagan Democrats” was not able to win this constituency against Democrats. Every Democratic presidential candidate since at least Stevenson (1952)  won over 60% of the union vote.  For almost as long as Gallup has been conducting exit polls, Democrats have won a majority of Union votes, and high school diploma only voters. Until 2016.

I’m no fool

Hillary Clinton didn’t lose because of fake news or Russian interference. The American people are smarter than that. She failed because the once proud Democrat Party has lost its way. It has neglected the underprivileged working man. In America today, big government welfare programs, and corporate bail outs function as a safety net for those who are unwilling to work as well as those who don’t have to. The blue collar worker will find no such help from Uncle Sam.

Caught up in its radical race to the left, and its mission to appeal to the “marginalized” , the DNC forgot about you and me. Gone is the rhetoric, and action, of a “fair deal” for the working man. In its place is are a slew of slogans pandering to minorities, and job killing environmental regulations. Clinton went so far in West Virginia as to tell a crowd of coal miners she would be putting them out of a job if elected. She vowed to sacrifice even more blue collar jobs on the altar of climate change.

Ever the astute businessman, Trump recognized this opportunity and pounced on it. These disenfranchised blue collar workers were the key constituency to his victory, delivering him the rust belt states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. He stole the crown jewel of the Democrat Party.

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best of you?

The greater problem for the Democrats is not this failure, but their refusal to recognize it. Conservative Democrat Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) challenged radical leftist Nancy Pelosi for House Minority leadership, but was defeated. President Obama, the Huffington Post, and other leading liberal voices have ignored the obvious flaws in the party’s platform, deflecting the blame to Russian interference, racism, and fake news.

Their answer is perfectly instep with the values of modern liberalism. A key tenet of this new wave of progressivism, and the old wave of communism, is the belief that the average citizen is too ignorant and manipulable to make his/her own decisions. It is evident from their biggest policies, the individual mandate in Obamacare that everyone purchase healthcare or be subject to a fine, to their smallest, New York liberal mayor Michael Bloomberg’s ban on big gulp sugary sodas to force a drop in the obesity rate.

As is often the case, Ronald Reagan presented their perspective best, when he said they would have us “abandon the American Revolution, and accept that a little intellectual elite in a far distant capitol can plan our lives better than we can plan them ourselves.”

This arrogance prohibits them from even considering an alternative reason for the outcome of this election. They couldn’t possibly be wrong, therefore We the People must be wrong. They honestly believe you are so stupid that you voted for Donald Trump because of a fake news story your uncle posted on Facebook.

If you are a Democrat, this all culminates in a question for you. Is this the Democrat Party of Kennedy? Is this even the Democrat Party of Bill Clinton? Does your party care more about pronouns than job production? Are Democrat leaders still representing you the way they did before this wave of progressivism, or are they selling you up the river? Is someone getting the best of you?
